Casa sogn Martin
Past and present connected framelessly

Casa sogn Martin
In the old centre of the village of Flims, a harmonious ensemble weaves past and present into a quiet architectural statement. Beside the 17th Century dwelling, the former barn dating from 1826 retains its familiar silhouette, whilst assuming renewed significance. Its ancient timber structure unfolds like a protective mantle over a precisely assembled structure.
A subtle dialogue emerges here between the established building tradition and modern living – deeply rooted in its place, yet looking towards the future.
Vision & concept
The "Casa sogn Martin" project is guided by a clear architectural ethos. The elevated existing structure preserves its traditional envelope, beneath which a modest new construction has been added. What has been inherited is retained and thoughtfully augmented. Subtly orchestrated material transitions intertwine old and new in a natural dialogue. The historical building fabric carries the memory of the place, whilst contemporary elements introduce new layers, together forming a deeply atmospheric and harmonious whole.

Unique Material Composition
The carefully preserved timber structure forms the foundation, complemented by dark pigmented concrete, expansive glazed areas and muted larch wood. Its uniqueness is revealed through the materials used: a fibreglass frame enables high performance with a timeless design. Frameless sliding windows from Venuro help to craft a signature piece that preserves its history, but also offers fresh perspectives.
Alpine Clarity
Venuro 2 sliding windows open up the house to the Alpine landscape, providing a tranquil contrast to the aged structure and enclosed areas of the ensemble. They allow daylight to flood deep into the interior, creating a bright, inviting environment.
The collaboration with our premium partner Delfosse constituted a pivotal component of this project. From the initial dialogue through to final execution, we were guided by a precise, clearly articulated process and a shared ethos: to create singular architecture in which interior and exterior dissolve seamlessly into one another.

Tradition retold
"Casa sogn Martin" unfolds as a built manifesto of a philosophy whereby craftsmanship, creative courage and respect for the existing building resonate with each other. What was already established is not displaced, but carefully continued, layer by layer – quietly yet powerfully. Inside, this dialogue is crystallised. The historical building fabric is still present, whilst clear expanses of glass introduce openness and lightness.

Casa sogn Martin reveals what can emerge when courage, master craftsmanship, and profound respect for the existing substance act in concert.
